Biography

At 23, Tamia Dayanari Poret completed her Master of Music degree at Loyola University New Orleans, joining the small percentage of Black and Latina women to achieve this milestone. For her, the degree was never just about a title but about pushing beyond limits, staying true to herself, and embracing challenges with passion, discipline, and perseverance.

A proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, where she studied with Sakinah Davis and received the Sister Elise Sisson Award for Excellence in Music Performance, Tamia is also a 2024 NATS Southern Region winner and participant in the International Young Artist Program in Germany.

"For me, the journey has always been about growth, discipline, and staying true to my voice."

She has performed roles including Mimì (La Bohème), Magda (La Rondine), the Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro), Micaëla (Carmen), and Salud (La Vida Breve). In 2025, she joined OperaCréole in the revival of Edmond Dédé's Morgiane, which toured New Orleans, Washington D.C., New York, and Maryland.

Dedicated to her Black, Creole, and Latin heritage, Tamia is passionate about promoting diverse musical traditions through performance, outreach, and mentorship. Offstage, she teaches voice and piano through Beyond the Studio LLC, nurturing young musicians with a focus on technique, creativity, and confidence.
